NHS: Barking & Dagenham Primary Care Trust

Green Lane Solutions (GLS) have been providing IT and Telephony services to the NHS Barking and Dagenham Primary Care Trust (PTC) since 2004. During this time GLS have been involved in the following projects:

  • Installing Structured Cabling solutions into the Trust's main office and at various Medical Centres throughout Barking and Dagenham.
  • Designing and Building communications rooms at various locations throughout the two boroughs.
  • Acting as Network Security consultants to the trust; Designing and Implementing a Cisco Pix firewall solution and day to day management of the rule base.
  • Planning, managing and installing a Cisco Ethernet switched network across 14 Sites.
  • Design and implementation of Avaya IP Office Telephone systems to support swine flu centres and centres providing direct access to Health Care Services for adolescence.
  • Acted as Technical Consultants and Project Managers for the trust's VoIP rollout.

The IPT (IP Telephony) Project

  • GLS were appointed by The PCT to act as technical consultants and Project Managers for the Trust's VoIP rollout across the fourteen sites it is responsible for in Barking and Dagenham. The PCT felt that GLS were able to undertake these roles because of their knowledge of the PCT's various networks and their experience of deploying VoIP solutions.
  • GLS were members of the Project Board and liaised with the PCT's supplier's (British Telecom and the Trust's IT suppliers) to ensure that the rollout did not impact adversely on the operation of the business.
  • The Project involved installing two CS1000's at two different locations to form a 'redundant core', management of the installation of various ISDN 30 circuits at the medical centres and the deployment of SRG PABX's to provide resilience. The project currently provides telephony services for 600 users but will eventually support 2000 users.
  • GLS arranged alternative engineering resource and supplies of equipment when late delivery of equipment would have resulted in the Trust's deadlines not being met. This included the supply of Nortel 8300 Ethernet switches, Nortel 5520 switches and Telephone handsets for various sites.
GLS' relationship with the Trust continues to be productive and we have already been asked to contribute to the following future projects:
  • Liaising with Audio Visual suppliers to develop an Audio visual solution to meet the organisations goal of conducting "paperless" meetings.
  • Upgrading the Cisco PIX firewall infrastructure.
  • Project Managing the Wireless network deployment at The Trust's Head Office.
  • Project Managing the Wide Area Connectivity between The Trust main offices and new premises later this year.

Whatever service we have used, whether it is consultancy, project management, design or implementation we have found GLS's approach flexible and responsive. It is this that has allowed us to meet fast track project deadlines.

In many cases we seek advice and guidance before projects begin so we can make appropriate decisions regarding how services are delivered. The PCT continue to use GLS's consultancy and implementation services on all of our forthcoming IT infrastructure and telephony projects.
