Green Lane always try to find the most ecological solutions and whether you want to save carbon or money here are a few things you can do to make a difference:

- Reducing your power consumption – Without knowing how much power is being used and where, it’s very difficult to identify where saving can be made. With many organisations within the State sector now forced to commit to Carbon Reduction the only way to prove reduced usage is to measure current consumption. We can offer many solutions to measure and present the information both privately and publicly. Using clamp meters is a simple method to temporarily measure Comms & IT power consumption and will indicate corresponding use with Air-conditioning systems.

- Energy Efficient Switches – All major manufactures including Cisco can provide these very clever switches with auto switching capability, sensing when there’s no activity and reducing power consumption by switching to standby and powering up when activity is detected. This is great for saving energy out of hours and during non-working periods.

- Virtualisation - Perhaps the best means of saving IT power for organisations with multiple servers is to consider virtualisation, combining multiple servers in to 1. VMware is the market leading virtualisation software and Green Lane Solutions are VMware professionals.

Not quite so tangible but we’d like to think that there are a few other things that could make a small difference:

- Recycling old hardware – Get paid for being Green! When upgrading, we can often off set the recycling contribution against any new hardware purchase through GLS, rewarding you for being eco-friendly.

- Adaptable Solutions that work for you – Using agencies to find staff in the IT sector can be frustrating, not to mention expensive. We understand that finding the right person for the job can often take longer than the job itself. Our adaptable support contracts is like having a “time share” with a multi-skilled engineer, meaning you have access to specialist staff (fully qualified) that cover almost all aspects of your IT & Comms infrastructure, from phone engineers and IP Telephone specialist, to cabling installation and design consultants through to virtualisation and enhanced switched infrastructures we can find you the right person.

- Paperless Billing – To save paper why not choose paperless billing, everything can be done on-line and by e-mail so you’re still in control and always up to date. Wherever possible we encourage clients to operate with paperless billing, meaning our telephony clients requiring itemised billing will not only saving money on their calls but are also doing their bit for the environment too. Every little helps.
